    • In the books and stories I’ve read by Laura Lee Guhrke, she has a way and writer’s way of re-building a relationship, such that it’s like the people involved or say the lead couple are discovering things about the other they didn’t know, or eyes were not open to before. In the Abandoned at the Altar series, that is one of the true premises along with second chances and other chance at love. In Wedding of the Season we meet Aidan Carr, the Duke of Trathen the straight lace very honorable [...]

    • 5 stars – Edwardian/Historical RomanceWow! I loved this! It's an emotional, sensual, and engaging romance between a free-spirited, indecorous, rebel heroine who's brazen ways mask a fragile soul and a steadfast, honorable, strait-laced, to-die-for duke who can't resist her scandalously tempting allure. I loved the complexities of the characters and the chemistry, connection, and passion between Julia and Aidan. Scandal of the Year is another Laura Lee Guhrke favorite! I just wish the wait wasn [...]

    • With this book Laura Lee Guhrke goes a little deeper into the psyche and pain of her characters than she has in her previous books, and it’s worth it. There were times in this book I felt LLG had painted herself into a corner and I would never truly like the heroine (she broke one of my romance “don’t”) or get a satisfying HEA. They go from family friends, to lovers, to ‘frienemies’, back to friends, to true loves. It is an interesting circle. Not every author can change my mind abou [...]

    • Again, a great read from LLG. Good characters, great backstory, nice use of characters from other stories (you do have to read the story that precedes this one or it'll all be meaningless), and also nice setting (early Edwardian and in Cornwall and Devon). Very, very enjoyable. Waiting for the next story is going to be torture

    • This was one of those books that was SO good, that I had to think on it before I could even write a review. Julia and Aiden were simply wonderful together; two such opposite personalities who balance, and were looking for something that they never expected to find with each other. As with the first book in the trilogy, the early 20th century was a nice and unusual time period that allowed for great social changes to be captured within the story, including Julia's scandalous divorce with Aiden na [...]

    • Out of the night that covers me,Black as the Pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever gods may beFor my unconquerable soul.In the fell clutch of circumstanceI have not winced nor cried aloud.Under the bludgeonings of chanceMy head is bloody, but unbowed.Beyond this place of wrath and tearsLooms but the Horror of the shade,And yet the menace of the yearsFinds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate,How charged with punishments the scroll,I am the master of my fate:I am the c [...]

    • I was really looking forward to reading this book, which follows Wedding of the Season, and features the straight laced Aidan, Duke of Trathen, and the carefree Julia and I am so glad that it was just as excellent, if not a bit more, than the first! The book opens with Julia finally getting her divorce from her hateful husband, Yardley. But in the process of getting it, she ends up causing yet another broken engagement and scandal for Aidan as she uses him in her desperate plan to leave her husb [...]

    • The second book in the Abandoned at the Altar series, SCANDAL OF THE YEAR is a beautifully crafted love story from the very talented Laura Lee Guhrke."On the afternoon of August 21, 1903, I had intimate relations of a sexual nature with Aidan Carr, the Duke of Stathen." With these words Julia, Baroness Yardley, is finally free after twelve long years of a loveless marriage. But her freedom has come at a price because, seeing Aidan Carr as she leaves the courtroom, she is overcome with guilt for [...]

    • Since reading Wedding of the Season, I’ve been looking forward to the story of Aidan -- a priggish duke who gets tiddly much too easily has a lot of entertaining potential. But although those factors do play into the plot, this didn’t turn out to be the “bad girl makes the good boy loosen up” theme I was expecting. Instead it was a “good boy makes the scared bad girl open up” story, and a lovely one.The book opens with Lady Julia Yardley being divorced by her husband, after he caught [...]

    • Wonderful story. Ever since reading Ms. Guhrke book Wedding of the Season(the first one in the series), I was intrigued by Aidan and Julie who played secondary characters there. I thought a love story between chain smocking, Mercedes driving social butterfly and honorable and proper duke can be very intriguing and author didn't disappoint! The story opens up in the court where Julie, Lady Yardley, named Aidan, duke of Trathen as her lover in order to obtain a divorce from her despised husband. S [...]

    • Scandal of the Year is the second installment of the Abandoned at the Altar series, and it is even better then the fantastic first! Laura Lee Guhrke gives us another unique historical setting, with dynamic characters that whisk readers away to a place in time that pops of the pages, forces you to take a side to the old Britain societal obligations - especially of woman, and embraces you with sensual, romantic second chances.Poor Aidan Thomas Carr, Duke of Trathen. He has NO luck when it comes to [...]

    • In Wedding of the Season, you knew that Beatrix didn't belong with Aidan. He was clearly the "Baxter" of the situation, he was so straight laced and stuffed shirt-ed and everything. But you still liked him. He was sympathetic. So, while many romance heroes are just "the perfect guy and anyone would be lucky to be with him", this one definitely shows you why some people belong together. Aidan is paired with "wacky" Julia, and while I rather disliked her in Wedding of the Season, here she is round [...]

    • Although this book was 10 times better than her last book, it still lacked her original spellbinding passion and story telling. From start to finish, the book didn't go anywhere and the whole book is just a retelling of old events with random flashbacks. I thought the plot line pretty thin and everything wrapped up too easily and clumsily. Furthermore, there didn't seem to be any conflict that made much sense to me, therefor the climax seemed as fulfilling as empty air. I was left feeling pretty [...]

    • I liked Julia and Aiden but though I saw there was an attraction I am not sure I was totally with it. I liked that they had some sparring but other than that I am not sure if I really LOVED them hummmm I think I will have to think on this one some more I love LLG books so this one might just need to grow on me!

    • Sooooo goood!!!Love it!!Why this and other books by LLG are not published in Portuguese?? Sometimes I don't understand the publishers

    • 4.5 starsIt’s hard to pinpoint exactly why I loved this book so much especially considering that the pace of the book seemed slow…The H/h’s characters, however, were so rich, developed, and layered. They were both strong, opinionated, kind at their core, and what they presented on the surface was a far cry from what was simmering underneath. The attraction between the two was palpable. I don’t know how Laura Lee Guhrke did it – but it shows how talented she is that she could convey the [...]

    • 4.00 Stars - Late Victorian/Early Edwardian/Historical Romance! Her scandalous liaison with the duke may be one scandal too many Scandal Of The Year tells Julia’s story who would go any length to get rid of her husband Lord Yardley whom she despised. Therefore eventually she got involved with Aidan Carr, Duke of Trathem, and managed to sanction a divorce in the adultery case. Aidan is a sophisticated wealthy traditional duke who understood he was maneuvered by Julia, who was his complete opposi [...]

    • Notice how this book wasn’t included in my upcoming books post from a few days ago? Yeaaaahh…NO self control. Hey, that just means more crap for me to ramble on about here, right? *rationalizes manic desire to buy books*I like our main chica, Lady Julia Yardley. She’s a tough cookie. She smokes, she drives, she swears like a sailor, and she puts on an incredibly convincing facade that she doesn’t give a fart about what people think of her. And she needs to because her divorce from her de [...]

    • The review is also available on my blog, Bows & Bullets Reviews::sighs contently::Why, oh why, have I waited so long to read another historical romance novel? Seriosuly, I know many of you won't understand it, but it's like comimg home. I think it's because no matter what, I know when I start one it will have a happy ending and it will make me laugh and smile and maybe even cry along the way. I vow never to go this long without reading a romance novel ever again. This one follows Lady Julia [...]

    • Who says nice guys finish last?Aiden; what an honorable, trustworthy, nice guy and he's a hunk on top of that. Aiden's problem he just can't find a fiancee who will stick around. He can't seem to hold on to them. His first one dumps him for her childhood sweetheart, and the second gets a tad bit upset when he's caught in bed with "that woman." And, it is "that woman" who is like a nettle under his skin, a ringing in his ears that he can't block. She's constantly irritating him, arousing him, mak [...]

    • Scandal of the year - Aidan and Julia's story, the sequel to Wedding of the Season. Poor Aidan was jilted by Julie's cousin Beatrix who ran off to Egypt with Will in Wedding of the Season (which is a wonderful story). To add insult to injury, Julia then used Aidan to cuckold her husband so as to force him to divorce her. Consequently she was left in debt and had to beg Aidan for a job as his social secretary, primarily to help him select a wife.I liked that LLG has included their back story from [...]

    • SUMMARY: The year is 1903 and Lady Julia Yardley has just been grated a divorce after she was caught in a compromising situation with Aidan Carr, the Duke of Trathen. So Julia is finally free from Yardley and so romance of her life begins.Aidan Carr should be looking for a wife but strangely he cannot take his mind of that seducing woman and the night they shared, though he does not remember quite a lot of it. READER'S OPPINION:Aidan is perfect. Of that have no doubt. He is gentle yet fierce at [...]

    • Julia is a breath of fresh air in a genre filled with damsels in distress. Abused and trapped in a loveless and frightening marriage, Julia takes matters into her own hands to free herself. She has spent years building walls to protect herself emotionally and physically. To outsiders, she is scandalous, raunchy, uninhibited, and only one man has ever been able to break those walls, Aidan Carr. With roles reversed, Aiden lives his life with a solid moral foundation. He too was an interesting char [...]

    • Ordinarily I love Guhrke's historicals, but it took me a while to warm up to Julia, the heroine in this Edwardian romance with a Sleeping Beauty theme. Yet by the end - I was won over. Story of a notorious divorced baroness who is keeping a secret of why she seduced a man (the Duke of Trathen, who she has known since they were 17) in order to be caught in bed with him so her sadistic husband would divorce her. After such a notorious scandal, can these two find happiness with each other or will J [...]

    • I enjoyed the story, however it wasn't fantastic. It was just average in almost every way so I gave it the 3 out of 3. The interactions between the hero and heroine were interesting but fairly predictable. I did enjoy the mystery as to why the heroine went after the divorce and I liked that it was drawn out till the end to get the answer. I also loved the love scene when it occurred. I didn't like the ending, but recently I haven't been overjoyed with many endings lately. I had questions I would [...]

    • I decided to stop reading because I didn't like the characters too much. He was too worried about what society thought, she smoked and her personality was not what I like in h. I rarely read any books by this author and I guess I know whyher plots and characters never seem to interest me. At least I tried!
